This error appears in a feature of Internet Explorer, which is used to handle HTML extensions called HTML + TIME.
According to Lee Dagon, director of research and computer security company GreyMagic Software (Israel), in addition to Yahoo Mail and Hotmail email, other e-mail services may also be affected.
Microsoft has been notified of this bug since March 11 and has released a patch on the Hotmail service. However, Yahoo users and other e-mail services on the Web may also be hacked through this vulnerability.
HTML + TIME (Timed Interactive Multimedia Extensions for HTML) is a technology standard that supports SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) and Media Playback Timing (SMIL) files, making it easy to distribute content to browsers over the Internet.
Hotmail and Yahoo filters often block HTML e-mail messages containing "deadly" code. But in this case, combining filter errors with Internet Explorer errors, hackers can insert other malicious code into their e-mail messages.
